The above URL is a report from the 2011 Oktoberfest at Chilhowee. The article tells about the history of the gliderport and also contains a short video clip. Come to this beautiful site in the SE (no desert flying here but plenty of ridge running).
Come to the 2012 eminar and experience it yourself.

How did the seminar go? How many went? What kind of talks? Any flying? I haven't heard a peep - did it happen?

It was a very nice seminar, well organized and fun. 35 registered participiants of which 28 were actively flying. We had 185 flights, 57 in one day alone. The heat was brutal most of the seminar with the temps over 100 F.
we had 4 soloes, three by converting power pilots and one from first flight to solo after 24 flights. I am just working on Hangar Soaring. Once that is out, I will send you the full article and you can post it.
BTW the lucky winner of the quilt was Jay Campbell from SC and the winner of the Limerick contest was Tom Johnson (a long time back TSS member) who was there with his daughter Rita.
We are going back to Chilhowee for the Oktoberfest.

Thanks for the update Frauke and thanks to Colleen for asking. I was also wondering how it went.

The "Alberta/Canadian contingent" was unable to attend because I was on the organizing comittee and Carol was a mini ground school presenter in our own event named "Chics Take Flight" on July 21st.

Three Alberta clubs collaborated and coordinated assets and efforts to organize the first of what we hope will be an annual/bi-annual event. It was held at Cu Nim, a southern Alberta club located near Black Diamond, south of Calgary a short distance from the Rocky Mountains. We introduced 25 women and 2 men to the sport of soaring and had a blast talking to the various media people. I myself did a live on-air interview on CBC Radio Canada one week before the event. We have articles appearing in the Fall issue of Free Flight, a publication by SAC (Soaring Association of Canada) and the annual issue of ASCent, a publication by the Alberta Soaring Council. I will submit an article for Frauke as well. Also check out a blog from one of the particpants who we later found out is a travel writer, http://one-giant-step.com/flyinghigh , for an elloquent description of her flight.

If you are interested in more info then please check out the website: http://www.chicstakeflight.ca and look on the right hand side of the page under 'Thanks for the Great Day' then click on photos 'here'.

Hope to see you all next year in Moriarty. I have heard from a few of other women pilots that they would like to attend as well.
